Neibra works because neighbours trust each other. These Rental Rules are the practical code of conduct for everyone who lends or borrows on Neibra. They form part of our Terms of Use, and breaking them can lead to removed listings or a suspended account.
1. The basics
- Every rental is an agreement between the Owner and the Renter. During launch, every rental on Neibra is a free loan: no payments, fees or deposits. Neibra connects you but is not a party to the rental, does not inspect items and does not insure them.
- Be honest, be on time, and treat other people's things the way you would want yours treated.
- Keep the conversation about the rental in the Neibra chat, so both of you have a clear record.
2. Listing accurately
- List only items you own or are allowed to lend, and that are legal and safe to lend. Check the list of prohibited items in the Terms of Use.
- During launch, list everyday items of modest value — tools, ladders, camping gear, kids' things. Please don't list expensive items like cameras, laptops or e-bikes.
- Use your own, recent photos of the actual item. Do not use stock images.
- Describe the item's real condition, including scratches, missing parts or quirks, and what is included (cases, chargers, accessories).
- Add any safety instructions or skills needed to use the item properly.
- Don't mention a price, fee or deposit — lending on Neibra is free. Keep your availability up to date, and remove listings you can no longer lend.
3. Requests and communication
- Renters: ask questions before you request, and send a request only for dates you actually need.
- Owners: reply to requests promptly. Accept or decline every request; you do not have to give a reason, but you may not decline on discriminatory grounds.
- Agree the pickup place, time and return time in the chat. Listings show only an approximate area, so share a precise meeting point only when you are comfortable.
- Be polite. Harassment, pressure, spam or using the chat for anything unrelated to the rental is not allowed.
4. Pickup: handover and condition check
- Meet at the agreed time. If you are running late, say so in the chat.
- Inspect the item together. Check that it works and that everything listed is included.
- Both of you confirm the item's condition in the app. If you notice any damage or missing parts, record them now. Taking a few photos is a good idea.
- Close the handover with the short confirmation code shown in the app. Only confirm what you actually checked.
- If the item is not as described, you may refuse the handover and tell the Owner in the chat.
5. Using the item
- Use the item carefully, only for its intended purpose and according to the Owner's instructions.
- Do not lend, sub-rent or hand the item to anyone else.
- If something goes wrong during the rental, stop using the item if it is unsafe and tell the Owner straight away.
6. Return and late returns
- Return the item on time, clean and in the condition you received it, apart from normal wear and tear.
- At return, inspect the item together, confirm its condition in the app and close the return with the confirmation code.
- If you need more time, ask the Owner before the return date. An extension applies only if the Owner agrees.
- If a return is running late, talk about it in the chat and agree a new time. Repeated lateness can affect your reviews and may lead to restrictions on your account.
7. Damage and loss
- If an item is damaged or lost during a rental, the Renter is responsible for it, unless the damage is normal wear and tear or a defect that existed before the rental.
- The Owner and Renter should settle it between themselves, fairly and in good faith, for example by repair, replacement or reasonable compensation. The condition confirmations from pickup and return are your shared record.
- Neibra does not insure items and does not pay for damage or loss. We may review reports of abuse and act on accounts, but we do not decide who is right in a dispute.
8. Free lending during launch
- During the launch phase, lending on Neibra is free. Owners must not ask for money or a deposit for an item listed on Neibra, and Renters must not offer one — not in the chat, not at the handover, and not outside the app.
- A small thank-you is always nice, but it is never a condition of borrowing.
- If anyone asks you for payment or a deposit for a Neibra listing, you can decline and report it.
- Paid rentals and deposits may come later. If they do, we will announce it in advance and ask you to agree to updated terms first.
9. Cancellations
- Plans change. If you cannot make it, cancel as early as possible and let the other person know in the chat.
- Last-minute cancellations and no-shows let your neighbour down. Repeated cases may affect your account.
10. Honest reviews
- After a completed rental, you can review each other. Reviews are revealed at the same time, so write what you really think.
- Review only your own experience of that rental. Be factual and fair.
- No fake reviews, reviews in exchange for discounts, pressure or threats about reviews, or insults and personal information in reviews.
11. Safety tips for meeting in person
- Meet in a public or well-lit place, such as a building lobby or entrance, especially for your first rental with someone.
- Tell a friend or family member where you are going if you meet someone new.
- Check profiles and reviews before you agree to a rental.
- Do not share more personal details than needed, and never share passwords or one-time codes from SMS with anyone.
- For heavy or valuable items, bring someone to help and check the item carefully.
- Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, you can leave, block the conversation and report the user.
- In an emergency, contact the police (100) or emergency services first.
12. Reporting a problem
If a user breaks these rules, a listing looks suspicious, or you feel unsafe, use the report option in the app or write to hello@neibra.app. We review reports and may remove content, limit features or suspend accounts.
